Older Home
I bought my home on Long Island a number of years
ago. One of the selling points was coming with a fireplace. Unfortunately no
one told me that I would have to find someone that would be able to perform
some chimney cleaning in Long Island. I never even thought
about the aspect of cleaning the chimney when we invested money into this
house. Thankfully I found someone who could help me out in that regard and we
weren’t inhaling ash or smoke whenever we put up a fire.

Time For Some Spring (Chimney) Cleaning
It may not feel like it yet, but we’re finally in spring. I
don’t know about you guys, but every spring I compile a long list of my spring
cleaning duties. Things that I need to get done in order to get into the
seasonal spirit. Like dusting the books in our library, polishing the
silverware, staining our deck and chimney
cleaning Long Island. For me, if I didn’t plan to get them done in spring,
they’d rarely get done. What are some of the spring cleaning chores you do on a
yearly basis?

Winter Chimney Cleaning
This winter
has been brutal! Recently, sitting by the fireplace with a hot cup of tea has been
everyone’s favorite pastime. If you’re using your chimney a lot this season
it’s probably a good idea that you have it cleaned. A chimney fire is the last
thing you want to happen this season. Don’t have a chimney cleaner listed in
your address book? No problem, Google chimney cleaning NYC and you will find a
great company to service your chimney.

Raccoon in the Chimney
We recently
had a family gathering at our house in Long Island where my Great Uncle Ed sat
me down and talked to me about the importance of chimney cleaning. Somehow it
came up in casual conversation that I hadn’t had mine checked in years, though
I use it every winter. Great Uncle Ed then told me a story about a time he
hadn’t had his chimney cleaned, and they found a raccoon in it one year. Now,
I’m attributing many factors to them finding a raccoon, but he insisted that
the ‘coon was drawn towards all the filth in the chimney. Whether or not the
story actually happened, I put in a call to have my Long Island chimney cleaned as soon as
I got home.

Time to Get Your Chimney Cleaned!
Each season having your chimney cleaned is a must! Why?
Because when used, chimneys build up creosote, which can cause chimney fires.
Having a Long Island chimney sweep clean your chimney on a yearly basis is ideal. The good news is a professional chimney sweep can make it happen without causing a mess. If they know what they are doing, they will put down cloths and be handy with a dry-vac to minimize any mess. You won't even notice we're there!

Mary Poppins!
My mother always made me watch Mary Poppins with her and
because of that when I had my own chimney I was excited to find a chimney sweep in Long Island. I sang the
songs every single time he showed up to clean the chimney and I am sure that it
annoyed him every time. But I didn’t care, I was in the chimney sweep spirit
and he did such a great job! I knew it was going to be hard work to
have a chimney and there was no way that I would know how to clean it properly.
Why wouldn’t I relish in the Poppins-esque reference?

There Are Critters in My Chimney!
I got a call the other day from someone who, before even introducing themselves, exclaimed, "There are critters in my chimney!" The caller was a woman with 2 young children so she was pretty panicked at the idea of the "critters" coming down the chimney and terrorizing her family.
Luckily, I was able to quickly assure her that the animals in her chimney would probably not come all the way down and were probably quite happy hanging out where they were. Squirrels and other small animals like the shelter they can get from a chimney, especially in nastier weather. I let her know that all she had to do was call a licensed, professional NYC chimney sweep and they would be able to take care of it for her. They will probably install a new chimney cap as well so this issue does not happen again. She liked that answer!
